Stephanie Tang Discusses Islamic Marriage Contracts in ISBA’s Family Law Newsletter

Partner Stephanie Tang shared insights regarding divorce under Islamic law and offered advice to practitioners in the May 2021 issue of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Family Law newsletter.

In the article, “An Overview of Islamic Marriage Contracts and Enforceability in Divorce Proceedings,” Stephanie discusses how U.S. courts lack familiarity with Islamic marriage contract concepts and therefore have had wide interpretations with contrasting decisions in previous proceedings.

Stephanie shared these decisions and advised practitioners to encourage their Islamic clients to execute a separate prenuptial agreement alongside the Islamic mahr provision.
